Full and Partial Dentures: Every Option, Explained

I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. 'Denture' is one word that covers five very different treatments - and most patients only learn that after they've already committed to one. Here's the full picture: conventional full dentures, partials, snap-in dentures, and implant-supported All-on-4. What each one is, who it's actually for, and how we make sure you never go a day without teeth.

Why patients get their dentures with us

Five denture types, one team, and a standard we hold across all of them.

Every option is on the table.

Conventional full dentures, custom partials, snap-in dentures, and fixed All-on-4 full arches - we offer the whole spectrum and recommend from your mouth, not from a menu. Complex cases get our prosthodontist's eye.

You never go a day without teeth.

For full-arch treatment you wake up with the prosthesis attached - you leave with teeth. That's a standard we hold ourselves to, not a luxury upgrade.

Implant-supported options that never slip.

All-on-4 uses four to six implants to support a fixed, non-removable full arch - no palate plate, no slipping, no clicking. Snap-in dentures give you implant stability in a removable appliance.

A team that's done this since 2007.

Surgery, restoration, and follow-up happen here at 54 Warren Street - one team, one plan, one roof. No being passed between offices for different phases of your treatment.

How your denture plan comes together

Four steps from first visit to teeth you can count on.

01

Evaluation of what's left.

We examine your remaining teeth, gums, and bone with 3D imaging. That picture - what's salvageable, what's not, and how much bone you have - decides which denture types are genuinely on the table for you.

02

Choosing your type.

Full, partial, snap-in, or All-on-4 - we walk you through each realistic option with plain-English tradeoffs. We'll tell you which one we'd choose for our own family, and why.

03

Same-day fixed teeth where appropriate.

For All-on-4, many patients receive their implants and a temporary fixed prosthesis in a single surgical visit - you wake up with teeth. The final custom prosthesis is attached after several months of healing.

04

Follow-up and maintenance.

Regular professional cleanings and check-ups keep everything fitting and healthy. For All-on-4, care is like natural teeth - brush twice daily, use a water flosser beneath the prosthesis. Conventional dentures need ongoing fit adjustments.

The denture options, explained

Conventional complete dentures: full-arch removable teeth that rest directly on the gum tissue, crafted from biocompatible high-grade resins - the proven, affordable restoration. Custom partial dentures: designed to replace select missing teeth when natural anchor teeth remain, with discreet metal-free flexible resin options. Snap-in dentures: removable dentures that clip securely onto implants - implant stability and chewing power with the easy cleaning of a removable appliance. All-on-4 / All-on-X: four to six implants supporting a fixed, non-removable full arch with no palate plate - the closest to natural teeth a full arch can get. Zygomatic implants: longer implants anchored in the cheekbone for severe upper-jaw bone loss, for patients told standard implants couldn't work. Which one fits you comes down to how many teeth remain, your bone, and whether you want fixed or removable.

The Honest Denture Conversation

The Right Denture Is the One That Fits Your Life

Most people hear 'denture' and picture one thing: the removable plate their grandparents took out at night. That exists - and for some patients it's exactly right. But it's one option of five, and the difference between them is enormous: removable vs. fixed, sitting on gums vs. anchored in bone, affordable vs. the closest thing to your natural teeth.

The detail that changes everything is stability. Conventional dentures rest on your gums, so some movement is part of life with them. The moment implants enter the picture - whether snap-in or fixed All-on-4 - the appliance stops moving. Patients tell us the real change isn't cosmetic; it's eating without thinking about it, laughing without worrying, forgetting the denture is there.

Here's my rule for every denture consultation: every option on the table, plain-English tradeoffs, exact numbers before anything begins. If a conventional denture serves you best, we'll say so. If implant support changes your life, we'll say that too. You leave with the denture that fits your mouth and your life - and you never go a day without teeth getting there.

Denture questions, answered

01What's the difference between full and partial dentures?

A full (complete) denture replaces all the teeth in an arch - it rests directly on the gum tissue. A partial denture replaces select missing teeth when natural anchor teeth remain, designed to fill the gaps across the arch. Which one you need comes down to how many healthy teeth you still have.

02What is the difference between All-on-4 and traditional dentures?

All-on-4 uses four to six titanium implants to support a fixed, non-removable full arch of teeth with no palate plate. Traditional dentures rest on the gums and must be removed nightly. All-on-4 stimulates the jawbone, never slips, and lets you eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence.

03What are snap-in dentures?

Removable dentures that securely snap onto dental implants. They combine the enhanced stability and chewing power of implants with the easy cleaning of a removable appliance - a middle ground between conventional dentures and a fixed full arch.

04Will I be without teeth during treatment?

No. For full-arch treatment, you wake up with the prosthesis attached - you leave with teeth. That's a standard we hold ourselves to.

05I've worn dentures for years. Can I switch to implant-supported teeth?

You're an ideal candidate to evaluate. Years of denture wear often cause significant bone loss, but All-on-4's angled implant placement frequently works even in these cases. If bone is severely depleted, zygomatic implants - anchored in the cheekbone - can carry a full fixed arch where standard implants can't. We'll determine the right approach with 3D imaging.

06What if I don't have enough bone for standard implants?

We evaluate every case with 3D imaging. Angled implant placement maximizes contact with the bone you have, bone grafting can rebuild what's thinned, and for severe upper-jaw bone loss, zygomatic implants anchor directly into the cheekbone. Being told 'no' elsewhere doesn't mean no - it means you need the right evaluation.

07How do I care for my dentures?

Conventional dentures need nightly removal, cleaning, and ongoing fit adjustments. For All-on-4, care is like natural teeth: brush twice daily, use a water flosser to clean beneath the prosthesis, and come in for regular professional cleanings and check-ups. Nothing to remove, soak, or adhere.

08How much do dentures cost?

It depends on the type - conventional, partial, snap-in, or full All-on-4 - and your specific case. We'll give you the exact number at your evaluation before anything begins and walk you through financing. We don't bill insurance directly.
