Same-day tooth extraction | Tribeca, NYC

Same-Day Emergency Tooth Extraction in Tribeca, NYC

I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. When a tooth is broken below the gumline, split by a vertical crack, or destroyed by infection beyond what a crown or root canal can support, waiting turns a bad day into a dangerous one. At Tribeca Dental Studio, we do everything we can to see emergency patients the same day — find the cause, get you out of pain, and remove the tooth safely in our in-house surgical suite. Here is what qualifies, what the visit looks like, and what happens next.

Same-day emergency tooth extraction at Tribeca Dental Studio in Tribeca, NYC — gentle surgical extraction by Dr. Cameron Lewis

Why emergency patients come to us same-day

When a tooth has to come out today, what matters is speed, an honest diagnosis, and a safe surgical hand.

Same-day priority during office hours.

Call (212) 561-5303 as early as you can — the earlier you call, the more room we have. If it's after hours, call anyway: you'll hear exactly what to do next and how to reach us.

In-house surgical suite.

Extractions are led by oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Cameron Lewis, DDS. You won't be bounced to a stranger across town — the team that diagnoses you handles the surgery.

Numb, treated, stabilized.

Visit one is about relief. Modern local anesthesia means you won't feel pain during the procedure — just mild pressure — while we treat the cause and stabilize you.

You know the cost first.

We tell you exactly what the visit costs before we do anything — no surprises. We don't bill insurance directly; we'll walk you through financing and our membership plan for patients without coverage.

What your same-day visit looks like

Four steps from the call to the plan for what comes next.

01

Call first thing.

Tell us what's happening — severe toothache, a cracked or broken tooth, swelling. We'll triage you on the call and hold a same-day slot during office hours.

02

We find the cause first.

No rushed patch job. We take X-rays, examine the tooth, the bite, and the surrounding tissue, and show you exactly what's going on before anything happens.

03

Get you out of pain.

That's the priority of visit one: numb the area, treat the cause, and extract the tooth with tissue-preserving technique — gentle sectioning that conserves your jawbone for what comes next.

04

Plan the fix.

A missing tooth invites its neighbors to shift and your jawbone to shrink. We map out replacement — implant, bridge, or other options — before you leave.

After it's out: protecting your jawbone

Replacing an extracted tooth protects your jawbone and keeps neighboring teeth from shifting. When clinically ideal, Dr. Lewis places the implant fixture into the socket during the same visit; when bone regeneration is needed, the area typically heals in 2 to 4 months. A socket-preservation graft placed right at extraction keeps the bone volume a future implant needs. A dental implant is a small titanium post that takes the place of your tooth root — it doesn't touch your other teeth, and it keeps the bone stimulated. Exact cost is confirmed at your evaluation, and we'll walk you through financing and our membership plan for patients without coverage.

The Honest Emergency Conversation

Waiting Is the Real Risk

People in pain wait, and I understand why — life is busy, and it's tempting to think a tooth problem will go away on its own. It won't. Wisdom-tooth swelling, dental pain, a chipped tooth, anything in your mouth that isn't ordinary — those are signs of something we can stop before it becomes a true emergency. Waiting is what turns a simple visit into a complicated one.

Here's the part patients find reassuring: we don't default to extraction. We always evaluate saving the tooth first. But when a tooth is destroyed below the gumline, split by a vertical crack, or consumed by infection, removing it is the kinder choice — it protects your bone, your bite, and every tooth around it. The kindest thing is an honest answer, not a heroic rescue attempt that fails a month later.

And you don't get bounced anywhere. The X-ray, the diagnosis, the surgery, and the plan for what replaces the tooth all happen under this roof, with the same team. That's what a same-day emergency visit should feel like: one call, one place, and a plan before you walk out the door.

Emergency extraction questions, answered

01Do you really see emergencies the same day?

We do everything we can to see emergency patients the same day during office hours. Call (212) 561-5303 as early as you can — the earlier you call, the more room we have. After hours, call anyway and you'll hear exactly what to do next and how to reach us.

02What counts as an emergency that might need an extraction?

Call right away if you have severe or throbbing tooth pain that won't quit, a cracked, chipped, or broken tooth, swelling in your face, jaw, or gums, a knocked-out tooth, bleeding that won't stop, or wisdom-tooth pain and swelling. Not sure it's an emergency? Call anyway — we'd rather talk you through it in two minutes than have you sit at home worrying.

03Will the extraction hurt?

Thanks to modern local anesthetics — and sedation options we can discuss — you will not feel pain during the procedure. You may feel mild pressure as the tooth is gently eased out.

04What should I do before I get to you?

Call first — we'll triage you and tell you what to do. If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently without scrubbing, and keep it moist — in cold milk is best, or tucked inside your cheek. Get here within the hour if you possibly can.

05How much does an emergency extraction cost?

It depends on what we find, but we'll always tell you the exact cost before we do anything — no surprises. We don't bill insurance directly; we'll walk you through financing and our membership plan for patients without coverage.

06How long before I'm back to normal?

Bite firmly on gauze for 30–45 minutes after the procedure and use ice to control swelling. Most patients are back to their routine in 2–3 days — then it's gentle hygiene and your follow-up visit while the site keeps healing underneath.

07How do I avoid dry socket?

Dry socket happens when the healing blood clot dislodges from the socket. Prevent it by sticking to soft foods for the first 24–48 hours and avoiding straws, smoking, spitting, and vigorous rinsing. After day two, gentle warm saltwater rinses after meals keep things clean.

08What replaces the tooth afterward?

Usually a dental implant — a small titanium post that takes the place of your tooth root, without touching your other teeth. When clinically ideal, Dr. Lewis places the implant the same visit; when bone regeneration is needed, the area typically heals in 2 to 4 months. A bridge or other options can be discussed too. Exact cost is confirmed at your evaluation.

09Do I need someone to drive me home?

If you receive sedation, yes — you'll need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. With local anesthesia alone, you can leave on your own. We confirm which applies in your case before the appointment.
