Knocked-Out Tooth: Emergency Care in Tribeca, NYC
A knocked-out tooth is a true dental emergency — and the clock starts the second it happens. I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently without scrubbing, and keep it moist — in cold milk is best, or tucked inside your cheek. Get here within the hour if you possibly can. We do everything we can to see emergency patients the same day during office hours. Call (212) 561-5303 as early as you can — the earlier you call, the more room we have.

What to do in the first hour
What you do before you reach us decides whether the tooth can be saved.
Pick it up by the crown.
Handle the tooth by the crown (the chewing surface) — never the root. The root has delicate cells that give the tooth its best chance of reattaching.
Rinse gently — don't scrub.
If it's dirty, rinse it briefly under water without scrubbing or drying it. No soap, no chemicals, no wrapping it in tissue.
Keep it moist.
In cold milk is best. Tucked inside your cheek works too. A dry tooth is a dying tooth — moisture buys time.
Get here within the hour.
The sooner the tooth is back in place, the better its chances. Call (212) 561-5303 immediately — after hours, call anyway and you'll hear exactly what to do next and how to reach us.
What happens when you get here
Fast, calm, and focused on saving the tooth.
Call first.
We'll triage you on the phone and tell you what to do — including how to handle and transport the tooth. The earlier you call, the more room we have.
Same-day emergency visit.
We do everything we can to see emergency patients the same day during office hours. Thanks to modern local anesthetics — and sedation options we can discuss — you will not feel pain during the procedure.
Save the tooth if possible.
If the tooth is viable, we work to reposition and stabilize it. If it can't be saved, we'll tell you honestly and lay out the replacement options — no surprises.
The replacement plan.
What replaces the tooth afterward is usually a dental implant — a small titanium post that takes the place of your tooth root, without touching your other teeth. A bridge or other options can be discussed too. Exact cost is confirmed at your evaluation.
My honest rule about knocked-out teeth
Time is everything with a knocked-out tooth — an hour can be the difference between saving it and replacing it. If you're reading this with a tooth in your hand, stop reading and call us now. We'll talk you through exactly what to do on the phone.
Hablamos español
We warmly welcome Spanish-speaking patients. En una emergencia, nuestro equipo le explica qué hacer en su idioma — llámenos al (212) 561-5303. No facturamos directamente al seguro; le ayudamos con el financiamiento.
