Gum disease treatment in Tribeca, NYC

Gum Disease Treatment in Tribeca, NYC

I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss — but caught early, it's reversible. We screen your gums at every routine exam, and when treatment is needed we match it to the stage: deep cleanings, scaling and root planing, Fotona TwinLight laser therapy, and LANAP laser gum treatment with Dr. Sam Morhaim. If your gums bleed when you brush, don't wait — that's your mouth asking for help.

How we treat gum disease

Matched to the stage — from reversible to advanced.

Screened at every exam.

Your gums are checked at every routine visit, so early inflammation is caught while it's still fully reversible with professional care and better home hygiene.

Deep cleaning and scaling.

For established disease: comprehensive deep cleanings and scaling and root planing — removing bacterial deposits and calculus below the gumline where your brush can't reach.

Fotona TwinLight laser therapy.

Our non-surgical laser therapy minimizes post-procedure discomfort and speeds recovery — effective local anesthesia keeps you comfortable throughout.

LANAP with Dr. Sam Morhaim.

For selected moderate-to-advanced periodontitis, LANAP — the Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure — treats gum disease without a scalpel flap or sutures.

Your gum treatment visit

What to expect, step by step.

01

Periodontal evaluation.

We measure pocket depths, check for inflammation and bone loss, and determine the stage of your gum disease — a full exam is required before recommending any protocol.

02

Your matched treatment.

Gingivitis may need only a standard hygiene visit. Advanced periodontitis often needs deep scaling or laser therapy across multiple visits, then quarterly maintenance cleanings.

03

Laser therapy, when appropriate.

LANAP uses the PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG laser with root-surface debridement and periodontal follow-up — no traditional flap, no stitches.

04

Maintenance that protects the result.

Periodontitis is managed, not cured — quarterly maintenance cleanings and consistent home hygiene keep your teeth for the long term.

“Dr. Sam did the FOX interview on the LANAP procedure — he was one of the first to start using it. The healing is phenomenal, the recovery minimal — similar to a regular filling rather than a full surgical recovery with stitches. We also add additional protocols that enhance the results and bone regeneration. It's really short of a magical wand!”

What Dr. Sam says about LANAP

Dr. Sam Morhaim gave the FOX interview on the LANAP procedure — he was one of the first dentists to start using it. Here's my take, in my own words:

Gum disease questions, answered

01Is gum disease reversible?

Gingivitis — the early stage — can be fully reversed with professional care and improved oral hygiene. Periodontitis involves bone loss and can't be completely reversed, but it can be managed successfully to save your teeth.

02Does gum disease treatment hurt?

Most procedures use effective local anesthesia to keep you completely comfortable. Non-surgical laser therapy also minimizes post-procedure discomfort and speeds recovery.

03How long does treatment take?

Gingivitis may take only one standard hygiene visit, while advanced periodontitis often requires deep scaling or laser therapy across multiple visits, followed by quarterly maintenance cleanings.

04What is LANAP laser gum therapy?

LANAP stands for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure — a defined periodontal protocol using the PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG laser with root-surface debridement, clot formation, bite management when necessary, and periodontal follow-up, for selected cases of periodontitis.

05Who is a candidate for LANAP?

LANAP may be considered for selected patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis — deep pockets, inflammation, bone loss, or compromised tooth support. A periodontal examination is required to decide.

06Is LANAP the same as a deep cleaning?

No. Scaling and root planing removes bacterial deposits and calculus below the gumline. LANAP is a more comprehensive laser-assisted periodontal protocol for selected cases where additional periodontal treatment is appropriate.

07Is LANAP painful?

Local anesthesia is typically used. LANAP avoids the traditional scalpel flap and sutures of conventional osseous surgery, though individual discomfort during recovery can vary.

08Can gum disease affect my overall health?

Clinical research links chronic periodontal infection with systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes complications, and respiratory issues — another reason not to ignore bleeding gums.
