Wisdom Teeth Removal in NYC
I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. Wisdom teeth are the third molars — the last teeth to arrive, usually in the late teens or early twenties. For a lot of people, the jaw simply doesn't have room for them: they come in sideways, only partly, or stay stuck under the gum. When that happens, you want one team handling the whole thing — evaluation, imaging, removal, and follow-up — not a referral slip to an office you've never been to. That's exactly how we do it here, at 54 Warren Street.

Why wisdom teeth cause trouble
Most of the trouble comes down to one thing: not enough room. The evaluation tells us which category each tooth falls into.
- Impaction: the tooth is stuck — fully or partially — under the gum or angled against the neighboring molar. This is the scenario the evaluation is designed to catch.
- Partial eruption leaves a flap of gum around the tooth that is hard to clean — exactly the kind of spot that keeps getting irritated.
- Pressure on the neighboring molars: a wisdom tooth coming in at an angle pushes where it shouldn't.
- Timing matters most in the teens and twenties: seeing the position on imaging, before there's pain, is what lets us make the right call.
The wisdom-teeth evaluation: what it covers
Every removal starts with this evaluation. No surgery is planned off a guess.
Imaging: a 3D view of the position of each wisdom tooth — how it's angled, how deep it sits, and what's nearby.
Impaction check: is the tooth impacted, partially erupted, or coming in straight? Each answer leads to a different plan.
Timing: remove now, watch and re-image later, or leave alone. The right call depends on position and symptoms — not a one-size rule.
The plan: if removal is the call, the whole thing happens under this roof — evaluation, surgery day, and follow-up with the team you already know.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out
This is the part some offices skip. We'd rather monitor a healthy tooth than remove one that isn't causing a problem.
A healthy, fully erupted wisdom tooth that bites properly and cleans well is a tooth we leave alone — and keep an eye on at your regular visits.
We don't recommend surgery without imaging that shows a reason for it.
Removal is for the teeth that are impacted, damaging their neighbors, or repeatedly causing irritation — the evaluation tells us which ones those are.
If your case ever needs a different specialist's hands, we'll tell you that honestly. Under one roof is our preference, not a rule.
For teens and their parents
Wisdom-teeth trouble usually starts quietly, in the late teens — before there's any pain. That's why we invite teens in for a wisdom-teeth evaluation: imaging shows us the position of each tooth while there's still time to plan.
- The evaluation is straightforward: imaging, a look at the position and angle of each tooth, and an honest read on timing.
- Parents get a clear plan — remove now, monitor with re-imaging, or nothing needed — explained in plain terms.
- If removal is the plan, the same oral surgeon who did the evaluation does the surgery, right here at 54 Warren Street.
- Teens already in orthodontic care get the evaluation coordinated with their orthodontist under the same roof.

Wisdom teeth removal in NYC — questions answered
01What happens at a wisdom-teeth evaluation?
Imaging of each wisdom tooth's position and angle, a check for impaction, an honest read on timing (remove now, monitor, or leave alone), and a clear plan. Nothing is scheduled for surgery without the evaluation first.
02Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. A healthy, fully erupted wisdom tooth that bites properly and cleans well is a tooth we leave alone and monitor. Removal is for teeth that are impacted, damaging neighboring molars, or repeatedly causing irritation — the evaluation tells us which ones those are.
03When should teens get their wisdom teeth evaluated?
In the late teens, before there's pain. Imaging shows the position and angle of each tooth while there's still time to plan the right timing — which is exactly why we invite teens in for a wisdom-teeth evaluation.
04Is the surgery done in your office?
Yes. Our oral surgeon removes wisdom teeth right here at 54 Warren Street — evaluation, surgery day, and follow-up under one roof, with the team you already know.
05How do I know if my wisdom teeth are impacted?
You usually can't tell from the outside — that's what the imaging is for. The evaluation shows whether each tooth is impacted, partially erupted, or coming in straight, and each answer leads to a different plan.
