Periodontist in Manhattan — Advanced Laser Gum Disease Treatment with Dr. Sam Morheim

Dr. Sam Morheim — Periodontist in Tribeca, Manhattan

A periodontist is a dental specialist focused on preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum disease — and on placing dental implants. If you're looking for the best periodontist in Manhattan, NYC, Dr. Sam Morhaim at Tribeca Dental Studio pairs that specialty training with LANAP laser therapy that, in most cases, avoids surgery entirely.

Dr. Sam Morheim brings advanced laser periodontal therapy to Tribeca Dental Studio in Manhattan. His approach to gum disease treatment uses updated laser technology that, in most cases, avoids surgical procedures entirely — meaning less pain, no stitches, and dramatically shorter healing times for patients.

As featured on Fox, Dr. Morheim's laser technique represents a breakthrough in periodontal care. Instead of cutting away gum tissue with a scalpel, the laser precisely targets diseased areas while leaving healthy tissue untouched.

Why Laser Gum Treatment?

Avoids Surgery in Most Cases

The laser technique eliminates the need for cutting and stitches in most gum disease cases.

Faster Healing

Updated laser technology means shorter recovery times and less post-treatment discomfort.

My Philosophy

Why I Brought a Periodontist In-House

I opened Tribeca Dental Studio in 2007 with one idea: the best care happens when the whole team works together under one roof. Your gums are the foundation everything else sits on — implants, crowns, orthodontics, all of it. When I had to send a patient across town for gum treatment, the plan got fragmented.

That's why Dr. Sam Morhaim is part of our team right here at 54 Warren St. When your gum health needs a specialist's eye, you don't leave the practice — you walk down the hall. I review every case with him personally, so the diagnosis, the gum treatment, and the restorative work all stay one coherent plan.

LANAP: What Changed Everything

For years, treating advanced gum disease meant surgery — cutting, stitches, and a painful recovery that scared patients away from getting help at all. Then came LANAP, a laser protocol that clears infection without cutting the gums, and it changed what I could offer my patients.

“Dr. Sam did the FOX interview on the LANAP procedure — he was one of the first to start using it. The healing is phenomenal, the recovery minimal — similar to a regular filling rather than a full surgical recovery with stitches. We also add additional protocols that enhance the results and bone regeneration. It's really short of a magical wand!” — Dr. Nina Izhaky (on Dr. Sam Morhaim)

Periodontist FAQs

What does a periodontist do?

A periodontist is a specialist in the health of your gums and the bone that holds your teeth in place. They diagnose and treat gum disease, place implants, and perform procedures like gum grafting. At Tribeca Dental Studio, our periodontist Dr. Sam Morhaim works alongside our general, pediatric, orthodontic, and oral surgery teams under one roof.

What is LANAP laser gum therapy?

LANAP is a laser-based protocol for treating gum disease without cutting or stitches. A specialized laser removes the infected tissue and bacteria around the tooth while leaving healthy tissue alone. It is an alternative to traditional gum surgery for patients who want a gentler approach.

How is LANAP different from traditional gum surgery?

Traditional gum surgery cuts the gums to access and clean the infected area, then closes with stitches. LANAP uses a laser to remove only the diseased tissue through the existing pocket, so there is no cutting and no stitches. Patients generally experience less bleeding, less discomfort, and a faster return to normal life.

What is the recovery like after LANAP?

Recovery after LANAP is minimal — Dr. Sam describes it as similar to getting a regular filling rather than recovering from surgery. Most patients are back to their normal routine quickly, without the pain and swelling that come with stitches.

Do I need a referral to see the periodontist?

No referral is needed. You can call us directly at +1 212-561-5303 or book online to see Dr. Sam. Because our periodontist works in-house, your gum treatment is planned together with the rest of your dental care from day one.

Dental Care in Tribeca, New York

Tribeca Dental Studio has served Lower Manhattan from 54 Warren Street since 2007. Our practice brings together general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, oral surgery, and periodontics under one roof — so families don't need to travel between offices for different kinds of care.

Dr. Nina Izhaky leads our clinical team with a focus on airway health, dental implants, veneers, and pediatric dentistry. Our approach starts with diagnosis: we find out why a problem exists before recommending treatment. For snoring and sleep apnea, that means identifying the cause — whether it's nasal obstruction, jaw position, or soft tissue — rather than defaulting to a single device or procedure.

We use 3D CBCT imaging, digital planning, and laser dentistry including NightLase for snoring and LANAP for gum disease. Our Biolase laser means most cavities can be treated with no needles, no drill sounds, and no numbness — patients return to work or school right after their visit.

For patients without insurance, our dental plan is $70 per month (normally $100), covering preventive care, exams, and routine visits with no insurance company in the middle. We are located at 54 Warren St, New York, NY 10007, serving Tribeca, SoHo, Battery Park City, the Financial District, and surrounding downtown neighborhoods.
