What Is LANAP® Laser Gum Therapy?
LANAP® stands for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure. It is a specific periodontal protocol performed with the PerioLase® MVP-7™ Nd:YAG laser for selected patients with periodontal disease.
Rather than relying on a traditional scalpel-based periodontal flap, the LANAP® protocol combines laser treatment of the periodontal pocket with removal of calculus from root surfaces, formation of a stable fibrin clot, evaluation of bite forces, and structured periodontal follow-up.
The goal is to control periodontal infection, preserve healthy tissue whenever possible, create conditions favorable for healing, and support long-term periodontal stability.

Who May Be a Candidate for LANAP®?
LANAP® may be considered for selected patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. It is not automatically the right treatment for every person with bleeding gums or gum disease.
A periodontal examination is necessary to determine disease severity and tooth prognosis. Evaluation may include periodontal probing, dental imaging, bone-level assessment, tooth mobility, inflammation, bleeding, bite forces, medical history, smoking history, and other risk factors.

How LANAP® Supports Periodontal Regeneration
Periodontitis destroys the structures that help support teeth, including periodontal ligament attachment and alveolar bone. Controlling infection and creating a stable healing environment are important goals of periodontal treatment.
The LANAP® protocol has published human histologic evidence demonstrating new cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone formation in treated sites.
This does not mean that every patient or every tooth will regenerate the same amount of support. Healing depends on disease severity, anatomy, systemic health, smoking status, home care, maintenance, and other individual factors.
Regeneration Is Not a Guarantee
