Root Canal Treatment in the West Village, NYC
When the pulp inside your tooth is inflamed or infected, a root canal is the treatment that saves it: we remove the pulp, clean and shape the canals, seal them, and your natural tooth stays put. I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky at Tribeca Dental Studio, and West Village patients ride the 1 straight down from Christopher Street to Chambers for root canals with me — no transfer, twelve minutes. You're completely numb throughout; the reputation is worse than the reality.

Why our root canals work in West Village
A root canal removes inflamed or infected pulp from inside the tooth, then cleans, shapes, and seals the canal system — saving a tooth that might otherwise need extraction. Here's how we handle it.
Persistent tooth pain.
Pain that lingers — especially to heat or cold — can signal inflamed or infected pulp that a filling can't fix.
Swelling or tenderness.
Swelling near the tooth or tenderness when you bite can mean the infection has spread beyond the pulp.
A deep crack or deep decay.
A deep crack or cavity that reaches the nerve usually needs the pulp treated — the question is whether the tooth can still be saved.
Saving beats replacing.
A root canal preserves your natural tooth. Keeping it avoids extraction, and everything an extraction would trigger — a gap, a bridge, or an implant.
What happens at a root canal visit
Four steps — most patients tell us the procedure felt like getting a filling.
Diagnosis first.
We confirm whether the pulp is inflamed or infected — and whether the tooth can be saved. If extraction is the better call, we'll tell you that too.
You're fully numb.
Effective local anesthesia keeps you completely comfortable. Most patients tell us the procedure felt like getting a filling.
Cleaning and sealing the canals.
The inflamed or infected pulp is removed, the internal canal system is cleaned, shaped, and sealed — the infection source is gone.
Protecting the tooth.
A treated tooth is often weakened, so a crown is frequently recommended to protect it. We plan that restoration with you at the visit.
Down the 1 line from the West Village
The West Village is our closest neighbor to the north — the brownstone blocks off Bleecker Street, the couples pushing strollers through the West Village's quiet streets, the regulars at the corner cafés. Our office at 54 Warren Street is a straight shot down the 1 line, and the two neighborhoods share the same DNA: historic streets, real community, and a strong preference for businesses that have been around a while. We've been here since 2007.
Getting here by subway

Driving and parking
The West Village has some of the hardest street parking in Manhattan, and Tribeca isn't much easier — take the 1 train. If you drive, there are attended garages on Warren and Greenwich Streets within a block of our door.
Numb, Honest, and Done Right
West Village patients have a finely tuned sense for being oversold — it's one of my favorite things about them. So here's the pitch-free version: a root canal is not a punishment and it's not a sales opportunity. It's a specific treatment for a specific problem — inflamed or infected pulp — and it either fits your tooth or it doesn't. Lingering pain with heat or cold, swelling, tenderness when you bite, a deep crack or deep decay: we check all of it first. If the tooth can't be saved, I tell you plainly and we talk about extraction instead.
If it can be saved, the appointment goes like this: you're fully numb with effective local anesthesia, I remove the pulp, clean and shape the canal system, and seal it. The infection source is gone — and with it, usually the pain that's been running your life. That part surprises people: the thing they feared was the thing that was already hurting them. Afterward, because the tooth is weakened, I frequently recommend a crown to protect it. We plan that at the visit.
There's a reason I do these in our office instead of sending you off with a referral: the tooth we save is a tooth we know. The crown that protects it, the bite we balance, the follow-up we do — it's all the same team that's been at 54 Warren Street since 2007, the one your neighbors already trust. You ride down on the 1, we take care of the tooth, you ride home without the ache. That's the whole arrangement.
