Root Canal Treatment in Tribeca, NYC

Root Canal Treatment in Tribeca, NYC

A root canal is the procedure that saves your tooth when the nerve inside it is inflamed or infected — we remove the pulp, clean and seal the canals, and the tooth stays in your mouth instead of coming out. I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky, and at 54 Warren Street in Tribeca, I do root canals on the people who live and work around me: the families from Washington Market Park, the professionals from the towers on West Street, the couples in the cast-iron lofts on Franklin. You stay fully numb the whole time — most of my patients tell me afterward it felt like getting a filling.

Root canal treatment saving a natural tooth in Tribeca, NYC at Tribeca Dental Studio

Why our root canals work in Tribeca

A root canal removes inflamed or infected pulp from inside the tooth, then cleans, shapes, and seals the canal system — saving a tooth that might otherwise need extraction. Here's how we handle it.

Persistent tooth pain.

Pain that lingers — especially to heat or cold — can signal inflamed or infected pulp that a filling can't fix.

Swelling or tenderness.

Swelling near the tooth or tenderness when you bite can mean the infection has spread beyond the pulp.

A deep crack or deep decay.

A deep crack or cavity that reaches the nerve usually needs the pulp treated — the question is whether the tooth can still be saved.

Saving beats replacing.

A root canal preserves your natural tooth. Keeping it avoids extraction, and everything an extraction would trigger — a gap, a bridge, or an implant.

What happens at a root canal visit

Four steps — most patients tell us the procedure felt like getting a filling.

01

Diagnosis first.

We confirm whether the pulp is inflamed or infected — and whether the tooth can be saved. If extraction is the better call, we'll tell you that too.

02

You're fully numb.

Effective local anesthesia keeps you completely comfortable. Most patients tell us the procedure felt like getting a filling.

03

Cleaning and sealing the canals.

The inflamed or infected pulp is removed, the internal canal system is cleaned, shaped, and sealed — the infection source is gone.

04

Protecting the tooth.

A treated tooth is often weakened, so a crown is frequently recommended to protect it. We plan that restoration with you at the visit.

Our home: 54 Warren Street, Tribeca

We're not a satellite office that visits downtown — Tribeca Dental Studio has been at 54 Warren Street, between Greenwich Street and West Broadway, since 2007. Our patients walk over from the cast-iron lofts on Franklin Street, from the new towers along West Street, and from the families who fill Washington Market Park two blocks south. If you live or work in Tribeca, getting to us is a short walk, not a trip.

Getting here by subway

  • 1, 2, 3, A, C, E at Chambers Street — about a five-minute walk up Warren
  • 4, 5, 6 at Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall — ten minutes on foot through the civic center
  • J, Z at Chambers Street for the east-side connection
  • Citi Bike stations on Warren Street and Greenwich Street
  • PATH at the World Trade Center Oculus for New Jersey commuters

Driving and parking

Street parking in Tribeca is tight — cobblestone blocks and film shoots see to that. There are attended garages on Warren Street and Greenwich Street within a block of our door, so driving in is easy if you'd rather not circle.

I'd Rather Save Your Tooth

The thing I hear most often, sometimes before the patient even sits down: "Just pull it." People are scared of the words "root canal," and I understand — the reputation is decades old. But pulling a tooth starts a chain reaction: a gap, then a bridge or an implant, then the tooth next door drifting. If your tooth can be saved, saving it is almost always the better outcome for your mouth. That's the first thing we figure out, with X-rays and testing, before anyone picks up an instrument. If the tooth can't be saved, I'll tell you that straight too — I don't do root canals on teeth that shouldn't be kept.

Here's what the procedure actually is, without the drama: you're completely numb, I open the tooth, remove the inflamed or infected pulp, clean and shape the canal system, and seal it. The pain you've been living with — that lingering ache when you drink something hot, the throb that wakes you up — that's coming from the infection, not from the treatment. Treatment takes the infection away. Afterward, because a root-canal-treated tooth is weakened, I usually recommend a crown to protect it, and we plan that with you at the visit.

My Tribeca patients walk over from Franklin Street and the West Street towers — busy people with calendars that don't forgive wasted time. So here's my promise: we diagnose honestly, we do the root canal here with the team you already know, and we get you back to your life. No waiting weeks in pain while someone else finds you a slot. When that tooth settles down and stops hurting, you'll understand why I push so hard to save them.
